Following almost seven years at the MRC Institute for Environment and Health (and previously at HSE), Joanne has recently set up her own toxicology consultancy. Her experience includes health impact assessments, setting occupational exposure limits for pesticides, variability in the worker population, human health hazard assessments for the OECD HPV programme, and veterinary medicines risk assessment.

Philip Jewess
Philip Jewess is a biochemist/chemist with 25 years working in industry for Shell Research Ltd, where he specialised in the biochemistry, mode of action and physical properties of pesticides. Since then he worked for Rothamsted Research for nine years where he specialised in natural product chemistry, pathways of xenobiotic metabolism, pesticide resistance and semiochemicals as crop protection chemicals. He also has experience in the preparation of dossiers for registration under the Plant Protection Products Directive.

Mark Selby (Denehurst Chemical Safety Ltd.)
Mark Selby works within various disciplines, including physico-chemistry, ecotoxicity, environmental fate and toxicology and their relevance to the regulatory framework. This includes interpretation of data and the connections between the disciplines as well as relevance to industrial applications. Mark does a considerable amount of training work for industry, either through the CHCS (Modules include 'Advanced SDS Writing, 'Basic Ecotoxicity' and 'Advanced Ecotoxicity'). Other training includes applied toxicology for the University of Surrey as well as in-house training for a number of chemical manufacturers. These links have provided Mark with a good understanding of the requirements for support required by industry.

Dr. Anthony K. Mallett (Experien Health Sciences (Europe) Ltd.)
Tony Mallett is a toxicologist with 25 years experience covering nutritional toxicology, the safety evaluation of personal care products and over-the-counter medicines and hazard evaluation/risk assessment of oil/petrochemical streams. He has participated in European Commission, OECD and WHO risk assessment panels and was a member of the Health and Safety Commission WATCH Panel for four years. He was elected to the Register of Toxicologists in 1994. Since November 2000 he has been working as an independent consultant handling primarily risk assessment and data evaluation projects.
