Difficult Substances

Certain properties can make chemicals ‘difficult’ to test or assess in the context of standard methods. Problems can arise when certain chemical types behave in a way that makes them impractical to test or analyse, or give unreliable results.

Some examples are:

Insoluble - Highly volatile - Adsorbing - Rapidly degradable substances
Complex mixtures
Surfactants - Complexing (chelating) agents
Ionisable substances and salts
Coloured substances

It is sometimes important to know the purpose of specific tests in order to recommend an approach for such substances.
