The Environment
Agency Chemicals Assessment Unit

ESR Environmental Risk Assessments (in
progress) – assessment of environmental risks from
three common flame retardants, based on consultation with
industry, published data, and results of new studies.
Environmental Risk Assessment of Alkylthiols
(2004) – assessment of environmental risks from TDM (a
substance commonly used in polymer production) and related
substances, based on consultation with industry and regulators,
and published data.
Green Chemical Design (2004) –
scoping project investigating green chemical design approaches,
highlighting the key issues and points of interest.
Flame Retardants review (2003) –
collation and review of chemical properties and published
use data for all flame retardants identified in the context

Risk Profiles (2003) – development
of a new, generic approach to profiling potential environmental
risk of many substances, focussing on additives in the
plastics and lubricants industries. This is an example
of an R and D project requiring close collaboration with
the Environment Agency project manager.
PBT Screening report (2002) –
collation and review of chemical property data for HPV
chemicals, in the context of draft Chemicals Stakeholder
Forum threshold criteria for substances potentially of
concern.
EUSES guidance (2000) – collaboration
in production of user-friendly guidance for users of EUSES,
a computer program for environmental risk assessment.
Perfluoroalkylated Substances (2000)
– collation and review of chemical properties and
published use data for these substances.
Chemicals guidance (2001) – Feasibility
study on provision of guidance on environmentally relevant
chemicals regulation, in the context of COSHH Essentials.

Substance profiles (2001) - updating
and reworking existing data in the form of substance profiles,
