Peter Fisk Associates collaborates with other experts in the field to offer Green Chemistry related services and advice through Envision Chemistry.
Green Chemistry is part of a growing movement towards development of products and processes that improve environmental performance and sustainability within industry and society as a whole. This has been accompanied by tightening of targets and regulation. While the primary driver may be the demands of regulation, there are often secondary benefits in efficiency savings in the longer term. There are often associated cost savings resulting from more efficient use of energy and raw materials and less stringent regulatory controls.

Use of recoverable catalysts to facilitate chemical reactions without the need for high temperatures or pressures. |
|
Substitution of organic solvents, and use of aqueous systems wherever possible. |
|
Use of sustainable resources, e.g. plant oils rather than mineral oils. |
|
Substitution of solvents, reagents etc. for more environmentally friendly alternatives. |
Another key objective is the substitution of harmful chemical products, for functional but 'green' alternatives. One approach to this is the use of modelling and predictive techniques and application of expert judgement to develop new substances with a benign environmental profile from the outset.
Expert knowledge of chemical property and exposure models are key skills that PFA can bring to this exciting new area.
