EU Risk Assessment Technical Guidance
Environmental risk assessment of chemical substances can be complex and is subject to many models and assumptions. Guidance, in the form of an official document, is available to support risk assessors.
In 2003 the EU published updated technical guidance for risk assessment in support of new and existing substances and biocides. Peter Fisk and Andrew Girling of Peter Fisk Associates made some contribution to the technical review process that led to the revised edition.
The guidance may be downloaded free-of-charge from the website of the European Chemicals Bureau at http://ecb.jrc.it/existing-chemicals/.
REACH Implementation Projects are currently in draft which will ultimately supersede this document as the standard source of guidance for risk assessment. Publication is expected later in 2007.
