Green Chemistry is part of a growing movement towards development of products and processes that improve environmental performance and sustainability within industry and society as a whole. While the primary impetus may be the demands of regulation, there are other long-term benefits. These include reducing costs through increased efficiency and an ethical approach being more attractive to consumers.

Key aims in the area of process development include:

  • use of recoverable catalysts to facilitate chemical reactions without the need for high temperatures or pressures
  • substitution of organic solvents, and use of aqueous systems wherever possible.
  • use of sustainable resources, e.g. plant oils rather than mineral oils
  • substitution of solvents, reagents etc. for more environmentally friendly alternatives.

Expert knowledge of chemical property and exposure models are key skills that PFA can bring to this exciting new area.
